Breakthrough: Though he became known for his masterful lyrics later in his career, it is his screenwriting work with best friend Salim Khan that he is best remembered for. Hired by Sippy films as resident writers, Salim-Javed penned classics such as Andaz, Seeta aur Geeta, Don and Sholay.
Claim to fame: In recognition of his talents, Javed has won Filmfare awards seven times for Best Script and eight times for Best Lyrics. He has also won awards for both the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan, along with the the National Integration Award from the All India Anti-Terrorist Association.
Did you know: Javed almost dropped Amjad Khan for the role of Gabbar Singh in Sholay because he thought his voice was too weak.
