You are so right.
How can a movie supposed to denounce prejudices and discrimination carry such a racist image of black people? Imaging black community according to stupid and false prejudices: they're poor and still live like in deep south of 1902. So disappointing, I used to think this cast and filmaker were intelligent people ... I won't repeat my mistake.
When you want to decry stereotypes you make sure not to undertake them yourself com'on!

I totally agree with Nikhil's views, the film simply went overboard towards the end and was too long....all that simply to show Shahrukh as this superhero. The film was a disappointment and its time the critics in India give a fair review of a movie without being sycophants of the big stars and producers of Bollywood.

After all these years of experience, one can imagine that his acting will be at the best, but unfortunately every time there is an issue pertaining to India & Pakistan, he is the first (may be only) person from bollywood who over reacts and make the people's eye brows raise. One of such incident is about pakistani cricketers, perhaps for his fans in Pakistan or may be its just another publicity stunt, whatever it is he has hurt the feelings of some Indians..

I agree -- Karan Johar was clearly out of his comfort zone -- he seems to have a child-like understanding of human emotions and complexities. I think he's better off working on full-blown emotional melodramas (KKHH and K3G) rather than this uncomfortable mix of trying to be serious but not letting go of the cheese. I noted some similar thoughts in my review http://morethanfilms.blogspot.com/2010/02/film-review-my-name-is-khan.html

You're right, TinaMina. Mainstream Hindi films have become much more experimental with technique and content, which is definitely a positive development. Everything takes time, and I think MNIK tries to deal with too many issues at once. It tries too hard.
Thanks for the comment!

I agree, Nikhil. Had it stayed faithful to the core issue, it would have been a far more effective film. As for SRK's roles, you make a good point, but I think that with superstardom comes an expectation to repeatedly fulfill certain kind of roles because their status is elevated beyond the confines of the film industry. Within the Hindi film industry, it is difficult for any star to completely shatter their image once it has been so concretely set. They are now more than just actors. Thanks for the comment!
